With the popularity of outdoor kitchens and living areas on the increase, adding an outdoor fireplace or fire pit will bring your home up-to-date and make a pleasant addition to your backyard. Nothing feels more welcoming and inviting than a fire to sit around and chat, or to just enjoy the night sky after a fine dinner. And, whether you choose to incorporate a simple ringed-rock, campfire type fire pit or a full-scale fireplace, Champion Outdoor Services has the expertise to create your new addition.
We Install Fire Pits
The first thing to consider when planning a fire pit or fireplace is your local restrictions for outdoor fires. Make sure that you meet your communities’ zoning requirements and regulations before proceeding. In general, the size and location of your fire pit or fireplace will probably be the only issue you’ll have to worry about.

Other considerations include the natural view and the direction of prevailing winds in relation to where you want to locate your fire pit. You want to make sure that you have a pleasant view and that you don’t locate the fire pit where smoke will blow in your face or the faces of your guests. Also, equip your home with some basic fire-fighting tools and supplies, just in case. And, don’t forget to have a hose within easy reach of the area.
Fireplaces can be built pretty much like those inside a house. Consult with your contractor about the material you want to use and the maintenance requirements of each material. As for a fire pit, recessed ones are optimum. You’ll want to build your fire pit about 9 to 12 inches deep, with a gravel-lined drainage ditch flowing towards a low spot on your property. Having a drainage ditch will prevent standing water from lying in your fire pit. It is quite unpleasant to have to bail out black ash-laden water when you want to build a fire.
